The Gift of Nature's Canvas
Heather Kinkade is an award-winning gourd artist. If you have not had the opportunity to visit Heather's studio at the Arizona Fine Art EXPO; we suggest to make the trip!
"I migrate to deep rich colors and textures that reflect nature’s palette. My signature has become my varied faux basket patterns and my faux leather tooling that is unlike any that has been created on a gourd. I carve, burn, and finish each gourd with color pencil or acrylic paint and sometimes add a small embellishment".
Gourds are plants that after growing to their intended size will dry hard allowing their shells to be carved and wood burned as if they were actual wood from a tree. They provide a ready-made shape that can become anything your imagination will allow. " I challenge the traditional to think outside the box and incorporate my love of nature into every gourd. The result is a balanced and eye pleasing creation from once living material.
Heather is exhibiting and selling her gourds in her studio at the Arizona Fine Art EXPO, now through March 26th. Open daily 10 am - 6 pm
